Both the XMLmind XML Editor and the XLingPaper package work on Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

Install for the first time

There are two steps involved in installing the XLingPaper package for the first time.

Step 1: Get the XMLmind XML Editor

First, since the XLingPaper configuration package works with the XMLmind XML Editor, you will need to download and install the XMLmind XML Editor. (For Linux, be sure to also install Java 8, version 1.8.0_112 or higher.) The XLingPaper configuration package works with version 5.3.0 of the XMLmind XML Editor and also with version 7.2 and higher. To see a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of the two versions, see XLingPaper with the XMLmind XML Editor version 7.3+.

XMLmind XML Editor version 5.3

The XMLmind XML Editor Version 5.3 is only available for those who meet the requirements of the Personal Edition License version 1.1, see XMLmind XML Editor Personal Edition License Agreement, version 1.1. If you are a member of SIL International and are using this program on your own computer, you qualify to use the Personal Edition. Instructions for how to get version 5.3.0 of the XMLmind XML Editor are given below.

XMLmind XML Editor version 7.2+

You can also obtain version 7.2 (or higher) of the XMLmind XML Editor by going to the XMLmind XML Editor website. It also has a Personal Edition License available. See http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/license_xxe_perso.html and read it carefully. If you are a member of SIL International and are using this program on your own computer, you do qualify to use the Personal Edition. If you qualify, please download and install the XMLmind XML Editor by following the instructions at http://www.xmlmind.com/xmleditor/download.shtml#download_xxe_perso.
