This font supports over 2,750 characters from The Unicode Standard<\/a> as well as a number of Private Use Area (PUA)<\/a> characters. In total, over 4,500 glyphs are included, supporting stylistic alternates for a number of characters as well as a large number of ligated sequences (e.g., contour tone letters used in phonetic transcription of tonal languages).<\/p>\n

          Deprecated SIL Corporate PUA characters<\/h3>\n

          Some characters formerly in the PUA have been added to Unicode, and so have been deprecated in our fonts. Those PUA characters are displayed as black boxes containing a white image of the deprecated glyph.<\/p>\n

          Gentium Basic and Gentium Book Basic supported characters<\/h2>\n

          The supported character set for the old Gentium Basic and Gentium Book Basic fonts was much smaller than for the main Gentium font. The Basic<\/em> fonts supported only the Basic Latin and Latin-1 Supplement Unicode ranges, plus a selection of the more commonly used extended Latin characters, with miscellaneous diacritical marks, symbols and punctuation. In particular, these fonts did not support:<\/p>\n

          • Full extended Latin IPA<\/li>\n
          • Complete support for Central European languages<\/li>\n
          • Greek<\/li>\n
          • Cyrillic<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            A much more complete character set is supported in the current Gentium fonts. The Basic<\/em> fonts were intended as a way to provide additional weights for basic font users before the complete Gentium character set was finished. Please don\u2019t request additional glyphs or characters to be supported in the Basic fonts\u2014use Gentium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
