What format lexicon data can Lexique Pro display?<\/h3>\n<p>Lexique Pro can read two formats of lexicon database file:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Text file with recognised standard format markers, or<\/li>\n<li>XML file in <a href=\"http:\/\/code.google.com\/p\/lift-standard\/\" title=\"\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LIFT (Lexicon Interchange FormaT)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Standard format markers are for example:<\/p>\n<pre>  <b>\\lx abada<\/b>\n  \\ps adv\n  \\ge never\n  \\gn jamais\n\n  <b>\\lx jakuma<\/b>\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge cat\n  \\gn chat\n<\/pre>\n<p>Different markers are used to indicate part of speech, definition, lexical function, synonym, variant forms, examples, morphology, subentries, cross references, etc.<\/p>\n<p>This is the type of data file generated by the following two programs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Toolbox &#8211; see <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/toolbox\" title=\"\" class=\"external\">The Field Linguist&#8217;s Toolbox<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Shoebox &#8211; see <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/shoebox\" title=\"\" class=\"external\">The Linguist&#8217;s Shoebox<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By default, Lexique Pro assumes that you are using field markers according to the Multi-Dictionary Formatter (MDF) standards. For more information about MDF, see <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/downloads.sil.org\/legacy\/shoebox\/MDF_2000.pdf\" title=\"\" class=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Making Dictionaries<\/a> <span class=\"filemeta\">(PDF | 2.3 MB)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If the markers you have chosen to use are not the same as in MDF, you will need to change the settings on the <em>Field Markers<\/em> page of the Configure Lexicon Wizard.<\/p>\n<div class=\"top border\"><a href=\"#top\">top<\/a><\/div>\n<p><a name=\"Q2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Q2. How can I import my lexicon into Lexique Pro?<\/h3>\n<p>1) On the Lexique Pro main menu, select <em>File &gt; Open&#8230;<\/em><br \/>\n2) In the <em>Open Lexicon<\/em> dialog, select your lexicon database file and click <em>Open<\/em>.<br \/>\n3) If this is first time you have opened the lexicon in Lexique Pro, the Configure Lexicon Wizard will appear. Where does Lexique Pro get the words from to build the English index?<\/h3>\n<p>1) If the entry contains no <code>\\re<\/code> reversal fields, Lexique Pro takes the English straight from the gloss field (normally <code>\\ge<\/code>). A common example of such a field is the plural form of the noun, marked with <code>\\pl<\/code>. What are <em>lexical function<\/em> fields?<\/h3>\n<p>Lexical Function fields enable you to link from an entry to lexically-related entries in your dictionary. When Lexique Pro creates hyperlinks from other entries, how does it decide which of the homonyms to link to?<\/h3>\n<p>Suppose you have two entries for the same word <em>biki<\/em> as follows:<\/p>\n<pre>  \\lx biki\n  <b>\\hm 1<\/b>\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge bicycle\n\n  \\lx biki\n  <b>\\hm 2<\/b>\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge cookie ; biscuit\n<\/pre>\n<p>Suppose you want to link to one of these entries from another entry (e.g., <em>a synonym link<\/em> <code>\\sy<\/code>):<\/p>\n<pre>  \\lx kuki\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge cookie ; biscuit\n  <b>\\sy biki<\/b>\n<\/pre>\n<p>When Lexique Pro creates a link, which <em>biki<\/em> will it link to? Unfortunately, it will choose the first entry it finds. But we want it to link to the second <em>biki<\/em>. So how can we force Lexique Pro to do this?<\/p>\n<p>What we need to do is put a number <code>2<\/code> in the <code>\\sy<\/code> field, so that Lexique Pro knows it should link to the second homonym. For example:<\/p>\n<pre>  \\lx kuki\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge cookie ; biscuit\n  <b>\\sy biki2<\/b>               \n<\/pre>\n<p>Note that leaving a space before the number <code>2<\/code> also works:<\/p>\n<pre>  \\lx kuki\n  \\ps n\n  \\ge cookie ; biscuit\n  <b>\\sy biki 2<\/b>\n<\/pre>\n<p>The <code>2<\/code> does not get displayed on the screen, but Lexique Pro uses it behind the scenes to make sure your links are as you want them to be.<\/p>\n<div class=\"top border\"><a href=\"#top\">top<\/a><\/div>\n<p><a name=\"Q7\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Q7. I have a couple of words which are homonyms. How can I put a link in each of these entries to go to the other homonym?<\/h3>\n<p>Suppose you have a couple of homonyms, meaning <em>whiteman<\/em> and <em>spider<\/em>:<\/p>\n<pre>  \\lx v\u00e9'ho'e\n  <b>\\hm 1<\/b>\n  \\ps na\n  \\ge whiteman\n\n  \\lx v\u00e9'ho'e\n  <b>\\hm 2<\/b>\n  \\ps na\n  \\ge spider\n<\/pre>\n<p>To display links from one to the other, use the <code>\\lf<\/code> (Lexical Function) field, specifying <code>Hom<\/code> (homonym). Include the number <code>1<\/code> at the end to make Lexique Pro jump to the first homonym, or <code>2<\/code> at the end to jump to the second homonym. You can also include a <code>\\le<\/code> field giving a gloss.
