{"id":698,"date":"2007-11-19T20:09:25","date_gmt":"2007-11-19T20:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/software.sil.org\/wesay\/?p=698"},"modified":"2017-06-09T02:29:23","modified_gmt":"2017-06-09T02:29:23","slug":"add-semantic-domains-using-wesay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/software.sil.org\/wesay\/add-semantic-domains-using-wesay\/","title":{"rendered":"Add Semantic Domains using WeSay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"pull-right\" href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/bilumbaby21.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/bilumbaby21.jpg\" alt=\"Baby in bilum\" title=\"Baby in bilum\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><br \/>\nWeSay now lets the user edit the semantic domains of a sense from the <em>Dictionary Browse<\/em> and <em>Edit<\/em> tab, as an alternative to gathering words using the <a href=\"..\/collect-words-by-semantic-domains\">Gather by Semantic Domain<\/a> task.<\/p>\n<p>To see how this works, let\u2019s add some of the domains that would apply to a Papua New Guinean <em>bilum<\/em>. <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/20071119-1326383062.png\" rel=\"lightbox\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/20071119-1326383062.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>To look for a domain, we click in a box and start typing. First, we start typing &#8220;crafts&#8221; and see a domain matching that word: <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-10-48-1461.png\" rel=\"lightbox\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-10-48-1461.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next, since bilums are used to transport firewood, we type that in. A promising domain appears, <em>fuel<\/em>. But is that right? We don\u2019t want to say that bilums are something you burn. Happily, when we point to the word <em>Fuel<\/em>, WeSay displays a description confirming that domain is also for things you use in collecting fuel. <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-16-51-7641.png\" rel=\"lightbox\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-16-51-7641.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, since at least one of my kids has slept in a bilum, we should find a domain for that. Here we\u2019ll pretend we know the domain number, and just start typing that until we see <em>Bed<\/em>: <a href=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-18-53-9581.png\" rel=\"lightbox\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2017\/04\/2007-11-19-13-18-53-9581.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I had fun finding domains for a few words.
