About

Vocabulary Manager is a multimedia tool for learning vocabulary. It is an electronic flash card system with audio.

Vocabulary Manager allows you to create a database of vocabulary items with an image and two audio recordings for each item – one for a ‘citation’ form, and one for the ‘in context’ form. As you build the database, you can practice the words, and test yourself on comprehension, production, and spelling.

When you want to share the database including the audio and picture files, the program will package it up for easy sharing. The new users can then easily modify the database to meet their own language learning needs.

More Details

Vocabulary Manager supports Unicode encoding as well as (some) Legacy encodings.

Legacy encoded language databases can be converted to Unicode using “SILConverters for Office”, which is part of SIL Converters (2.6 or newer). See the Unicode Encoding Conversion topic in the Vocabulary Manager tutorial for details.

Vocabulary Manager is designed to use Keyman for entering orthographic and other representations of data.

Installation Issues

For Vista users, you should install this program from an Administrative account (as opposed to a Standard User account–even if it has upgraded Administrative privileges).

Also, if you want to create an Install Set of your language database to give to someone else, you must run Vocabulary Manager as Administrator. You can do this by right-clicking on the file C:\Program Files\Vocabulary Manager\VocabMgrU.exe in Explorer and choosing the Run as Administrator option.
