Getting Started
Note: the following sections are meant to help get you started with Phonology Assistant. It does not provide an in-depth discussion of the program, or how you would use it in real-world situations. If you need further help, please refer to the online help and training materials, post your questions on the forums on LingtranSoft, or contact us directly.
Starting Phonology Assistant
To start Phonology Assistant, do one of the following:
- On the desktop, double-click the Phonology Assistant icon:
- On the taskbar, click Start, click Programs or All Programs, click SIL Software, click Phonology Assistant, and then click Phonology Assistant.
Creating a new project
- On the File menu, click New Project.
The New Project Settings dialog box appears. - In the Project Name box, type the name of the project you would like to create.
- In the Language box, the name of the language (for example, “NKonya”).
- Add a Data source:
- In the dialog box, click Add, and then click either FieldWorks Data Source or Non FieldWorks Data Source. The Choose Data Source File(s) dialog box appears.
- Navigate to the data source you would like to use, and then click Open.
- If necessary, map the standard format markers.
Saving a new project
- In the New Project Settings dialog box, click OK. The Save Phonology Assistant Project File dialog box appears.
- Navigate to the folder where you would like to save the project.
- Click Save. A Phonology Assistant dialog box appears.
- Click Yes. Phonology Assistant opens the new project.
Adding another data source
- On the File menu, click Project Settings. The Project Settings dialog box appears.
- In the dialog box, click Add, and then click either FieldWorks Data Source or Non FieldWorks Data Source. The Choose Data Source File(s) dialog box appears.
- Navigate to the data source you would like to use, and then click Open.
- In the Project Settings dialog box, click OK.
- If necessary, map the standard format markers.
Exiting Phonology Assistant
To exit Phonology Assistant, do one of the following:
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- At the upper right of the Phonology Assistant window, click Close.
