Product Owner

Member / Volunteer Full Time Supported / Volunteer Remote

Maximize product value by managing scrums and prioritizing backlogs. Act as the primary contact for developers to ensure sprint objectives meet user needs and product roadmaps.

We are seeking full-time and volunteer professional Product Owners to help us manage the product development process of distributed teams of dynamic software developers. We have product teams that work in various frameworks and platforms.

A Product Owner works with a scrum team to determine product features and manage product backlog items, as well as communicate with the Product Manager and stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction. A good Product Owner is expected to be a customer spokesperson, product visionary, team champion, and a strategic leader. The goal of this role is to maximize product value by developing and managing roadmaps and sprint priorities via robust processes for collecting and synthesizing user needs.

  • Work with the Product Manager, Scrum Master or equivalent, and other Product Owners to meet the objectives of each sprint
  • Manage the product development process
  • Manage and prioritize backlog items
  • Act as the primary point of contact between team and Product Manager
  • Adjusting and improving each iteration of the product before release
  • Implement and Manage Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework
  • Participate in regular project status, planning, partnership, and strategic meetings
  • Plan and manage the development project from start to finish
  • Align the team around a cohesive product roadmap
  • Work with Product Manager on yearly roadmap for the team
  • Provide quarterly reports and requested metrics to the Product Manager
  • Lead performance reviews and goal discussions for your team
  • Design, develop, and deploy software applications, new features, and defect fixes
  • Design and develop unit tests and perform code reviews
  • Report any hardware and software needs to the Product Manager
  • Be available to travel to meet with the larger development team at least once per year
  • Be available to travel biennially to the Language Technology Conference
  • Participate in professional conferences and meetings

Education

Product Owners should have experience in software engineering, a good understanding of agile methodologies, and experience leading development teams. A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science and/or equivalent certification in CSM, CSPO, or SAFE is preferred, but we care more for a heart and mind that are always learning. 3 to 5 years' experience leading teams is preferred.

Training & Orientation

Will complete the initial IT Software Department training program and relevant portions of IT Orientation.
