SIL Language Technology roles come in a few different shapes — here’s what each one means for how and where you work.

Remote

A remote role allows the individual to work from a location of their choosing while collaborating with colleagues during set business hours. Some remote roles also offer the option to work from a central location where SIL colleagues work alongside one another.

Opportunities & Commitments

Our roles fall into three categories based on how the work is funded and structured.

Supported

A financially supported missionary dedicated to the work of language development and Bible translation. They partner with a network of individuals, families, churches, and organizations who contribute through regular financial commitments. Support is raised and managed through one of SIL’s partner sending organizations.

Volunteer

A self-funded contributor who brings their own financial support and contributes a minimum of ten hours per week. Volunteer commitments may be ongoing or within a defined timeframe, ranging from a few weeks to several years.

Associate

A short-term, full-time volunteer who serves for approximately 8–10 weeks, typically during the summer. This role is similar to what many organizations call an internship.
