All illustrations in the repository—including maps and diagrams—have an “rules code” that indicates the set of usage and permissions rules that apply. For example, every map and diagram in the repository has a map ID that is comprised of three digits (grouping similar maps) and a two- or three-letter rules code. (e.g. 143gt) Normal, unlabeled illustrations, on the other hand, have illustration IDs that are comprised of a two-letter rules code plus a 5-digit sequence number. (e.g. gt00127)

In either case, you can use the rules code to look up the specific usage, permission, and attribution rules that apply to that item.
