Many Truetype fonts are available in the Ubuntu and SIL repositories. These may be installed through Synaptic:

Xfce Menu--System--Synaptic

Search for ttf or font to see the options.

SIL Charis, SIL Doulos, Andika Basic, and Gentium fonts are installed in Balsa.
